Common Questions

NFC (Near Field Communication) tags are small, durable chips that can be attached to a gate post, utility box, or any fixed surface at a property. When a patrol officer holds their smartphone within a few centimeters of the tag, it records a visit — capturing the officer's identity, GPS coordinates, timestamp, and a cryptographic code from the tag that the GuardMap server checks. No batteries needed, and the tags last years outdoors.
GuardMap uses NTAG 424 DNA tags. Each tap carries a counter that rises with every tap and a message authentication code made with AES-128. The GuardMap server checks the code and rejects any tap whose counter does not increase, so a copied tap cannot be replayed. Combined with GPS coordinates at the time of the tap, the system provides two checks: the phone was at the right place (GPS) and the tag's code was valid (NFC cryptography).
Most communities are up and running in a day. Upload your property list (we accept .xlsx and .csv files), install the NFC tags at each property, and your patrol team can start verifying visits immediately. GuardMap handles the route optimization, scheduling, and reporting automatically.
Any modern smartphone with NFC capability works — that includes most Android phones and iPhones from the last several years. No special apps to install beyond the GuardMap mobile app. The NFC tags themselves are about the size of a coin and cost a few dollars each.
Officers can report issues directly through the app during their patrol — broken gates, suspicious activity, maintenance needs, anything. Each issue gets a severity level, is linked to the specific property, and shows up on the management dashboard at its next 30-second refresh. Issues are tracked through resolution.
Yes. Homeowners can log in to schedule vacation watches — extra property checks while they're traveling. They pick their dates, select optional add-on services (mail/package collection, light rotation, etc.), and the system automatically merges their request into the daily patrol route. They can also view visit history for their property.
